Editor’s Note:

When Kenya’s daughter, Alyssia, came to her in the summer of 2011, she would have never guessed that one question would change her way of thinking. Alyssia had just began reading when she began to pick up various toys and items around the house.  After looking at several items, Alyssia came to her mother, asking the question, “Mommy, is anything made in America?”  Kenya didn’t know if she was more surprised by the question, or the fact that she found herself ashamed of the answer.

A few years later, Greenhouse was born.  Specializing in recycled, reused, repurposed, and Fair Trade items, Greenhouse is a one-of-a-kind place located in the heart of the beautiful community of Serenbe, Georgia. Greenhouse offers a variety of specialty services, including interior redesign, prop/photography rental, wedding registry, and gift certificates.

What do people think you do for a living? That question is hilarious!!! I think that most people think that I talk and sell all day!!!

What do you actually do for a living? I have had my own shop, Greenhouse, for about six months now, and I absolutely love it!!!  A lot of my day is actually spent merchandising, pricing, and ordering product for the store.

Tell us about your passions! My passion is anything vintage!!!  I love taking old things and using them to create something fresh and new!!!  I love the history, character, and stories that old pieces provide and what they can contribute to a home or space!!!

Who|what inspires what you do? My mother!!! She has been my rock…always telling me that I can achieve my goals and dreams!!!

Was there a turning point in your life that led you to your current career? I began to realize that life is too short to be stuck in a career that you don’t absolutely and thoroughly love and enjoy!!!

If money weren’t a factor, what would you be doing? Exactly what I’m doing right now…With better clothes!!! ;)

What’s in your Bucket List? Oh, wow…So many things!  To meet President Obama, to travel to Europe, but most importantly?  To see, along with my amazing husband, my children grow up to be happy and healthy.

Knowing all you know now, what would you tell your 20 year old self? To go for it!!! Don’t worry about what people say about you!!! And to leave that guy alone. He’s a loser.

What’s you go-to stress reliever? A great massage.  Oh…And a good a movie. Anything with Ryan Gosling works.

How do you perceive retirement? Having the opportunity to do all the things you couldn’t afford to when you were younger!!!

Do you have a personal philosophy you’d like to share?

My favorite quote:  Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. -Marianne Williamson

What would you like your legacy to be? That I was a person who adored her family, loved her friends, and who wasn’t afraid to take a chance.
