Speak Her Style: Duchess Kate
Kate is said to be self-styled, but don’t think for a second that she doesn’t put copious amounts of thought into the appropriate look for each occasion. After all, when every time one steps outdoors is a public appearance, communicating through style becomes imperative.
Kate & Prince William chose to wear blue for the debut of Prince George. The message here is pretty obvious… “Its a boy!”
The polka dotted dress worn by Duchess Kate is reminiscent of the polka dot dress that Diana wore when she debuted Price William as a baby. Although it is a much updated style, there is no way that the two dresses were a coincidence. To me, this is a way to pay tribute to Will’s mother, and to also show she respects the tradition and history of the palace.
Lastly, the style of Kate’s dress is one that doesn’t try to hide her after-baby bump. Social media was abuzz with moms joyful about Kate’s real post-baby body. Not electing to hide under a coat plays into Kate’s “of the people” image, positioning her as a down-to-earth, relatable woman.
To recap: if your career puts you in the public eye, approval ratings sway with the switch of a shoe. Style requires the same studied thought that’s put into your speech, your website, and your resume.
