Balance: The Experiment.

Balance: The Experiment.

You know the saying, “What we resist persists”? Well, I hate the word balance. Loathe. {insert Grinch voice} I feel like it’s a measuring stick that ends up beating us rather than serve us. With all the pressure we put on ourselves to be 82 things every day, why on earth should we also demand that we do it all in perfect harmony? I just think it’s ridiculous. Look at the definition…

[bal-uhns] Show IPA noun, verb, bal·anced, bal·anc·ing. noun

1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc. 2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise. 3. mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc. 4. a state of bodily equilibrium: He lost his balance and fell down the stairs. 5. an instrument for determining weight, typically by the equilibrium of a bar with a fulcrum at the center from each end of which is suspended a scale or pan, one holding an object of known weight, and the other holding the object to be weighed.

I am addressing this dreadful word head on for two reasons. 1. I don’t want this theme to persist and 2. A wise friend recently told me that I am an ‘exemplary role model for balance’. My response to her cannot be shared. I was mortified. Her intent was genuinely kind, but once we opened the conversation she encouraged me to explore how I an able to juggle so much with the same 24 hours as everyone else, with a relative measure of success.

SO, here we go! Each week I am going to share the overview of what I have goaled, accomplished, managed and juggled, including the details of the week that were unexpected. Today I am creating my goal sheet, updating my week’s calendar and will be taking notes as I move through each day. Next Sunday, Balance Week 1…
